Work Report: Soakage Chamber

Issue

A 1994 Property situated in the popular suburb of Aro Valley was experiencing water runoff which was finding his way under the property and saturating the perimeter especially the front section. Meeting the healthy home requirement was a challenge. Due to no stormwater drains at the property, a drainage solution was required. Drainage Control NZ was enlisted to find a drainage solution to contain the stormwater discharge from the property.

A soakage containment system was the appropriate solution to accommodate the stormwater capacity from the property. The calculations for the size of the soak pit were designed by a Hydraulic consultant, and a manufactured stormwater system was chosen for the site location.

A modular underground tank system which has been designed to provide safe retention and a controlled dispenser for stormwater management.

Solution

The site location was a labour-intensive exercise with all materials being man handled up the steps.

The property was situated on an elevated section with access up many steps from the street. With the appropriate dimensions excavated the modular system was installed with additional new stormwater pipework, from the downpipes from the property.

The modular system was backfilled with rock material and spoil and compacted. New topsoil and grass seed was also added to maximise any impact of any works.

With the capacity of the stormwater modular and new stormwater drainage the stormwater modular system, the property owner could proceed with healthy home requirements.
